SARA HICKMAN’S SUPER PAL UNIVERSE WRAP UP A SUCCESSFUL LAUNCH WITH HIGH-PROFILE PERFORMANCES AND YEAR-END GALA
The Super Pal Universe, Sara Hickman’s tween-age band and “edutainment” brand, is celebrating its launch with a year-end gala at the newly-renovated Alamo Drafthouse Ritz Theatre on Sunday, December 9th, 3 to 5 p.m. “The Super Pal Universe Gala,” a multi-media experience, will feature music, video, giveaways and more. Tickets are available at http://www.originalalamo.com
Open to kids and families, the gala will feature an amazing set of auction and raffle items to help raise funds for the band’s first CD release. Auction and raffle items include computers, cameras, ice cream parties, Little Richard tickets and more.
Leading up to the gala on December 9th, the band will make an appearance at Shady Grove on Friday, November 23rd, 3 to 5 p.m., at a family-friendly event to promote the Chuy’s Children Giving to Children Parade. Subsequently, on Saturday, November 24th, the Super Pal Universe and Sara Hickman will be featured in the parade, performing atop the GSD&M/Idea City float.
Hickman said, “Working with a group of teens in a band, watching them bond and become family, hearing musical ideas become reality … this has been quite a new exciting twist in my musical journey! I’m really honored to be working with such devoted, talented kids. We’ve assembled a team of amazing people working towards a goal of TV and music that’s for kids and made by kids.”
All activity is being taped for future webisodes of the “Super Pal Universe.”

Today was a cold day, a rainy day, a wet and blurry day, but we all showed up at 9 am and stood in the freezing rain and biting wind…waiting for our float to step-off! (The official terminology used in parades to signify the starting time)…
The kids were kept warm in a Progressive truck, the one that pulled our GSD&M Idea City float.
We had a giant penguin and snowman bopping along with us, mostly boppin’ because we were hoppin’ up and down to stay warm, or sing.
When it was time to go, we were joined by my youngest daughter, iolana, and two friends, Serette and Gabriel, and all the Super Pals…we couldn’t jam today due to the inclement weather, but we waved at the crowds (yes! crowds of people ready to donate toys for kids in Austin to receive from Santa!) and then our sound system totally blew, so we sang Christmas songs and yelled out holiday greetings to all the kids on the sidewalks…it was lots of fun, even though my toes (and Nadia’s) were FROZEN!
We saw the Hello! Kitty float and Star Wars characters and all the friends from Sesame Street and Joe McDermott popped over to say “Hi!” and afterwards we all went to Las Manitas to warm up and enjoy lunch and homemade chocolate chip banana cake.
Thanks, Super Pals, for being spontaneous!
Tomorrow we start work on our first cd!!!!

Yeah that pretty much sums up the whole day. But by the end of that parade, I couldn’t feel my feet or my fingers and my hair was dripping wet from all the COLD rain!! I got nine and a half hours of sleep and I’m still exhausted!! Well today we set out for another exciting encounter!! WE’RE RECORDING A CD!!!! YAY!!! It’s going to be hard work, but I think if we can focus (for 8 hours) we’ll be fine
. I am a little scared because this is going to be our FIRST C-D!! WOW!!! Well whatever the case everybody have a good breakfast and relax! So I’ll see you guys at 12

Yea, but that hot chocolate was good enough to wear. ha ha!

*sigh*. What Boris is talking about is that I accidently spilled hot chocolate all over my shirt and pants. Yeah, it wasn’t very nice. I was out is the freezing cold wondering “WOW! This hot chocolate really is warming me up!” I look down and its all over me. But he did the same thing so HA! Anyways, recording went good. We had alot of fun and the tracks sounded great. We’re going back to studio though because we have 2 new songs to record!! YAY! So Tuesday we’re looking forward to being live on KBTC!! So that’s going to be totally awesome!! Then this Sunday we’re going to play the Alamo Ritz! Its going to be cool because you get to see footage of us on tape plus we get to play our songs PLUS you can bid in an auction PLUS you get to help us raise money for our c-d PLUS we get to hang out with you guys! So come to the Alamo Ritz its going to be REALLY FUN!! Come and join the band ( ha ha ha ha ) in the promise land! SUPER PAL UNIVERSE!
